I ran across weird tales in books many years ago, by Edgar Casey. They were of the Bermuda Triangle ilk, but fun to read. Most of the stuff was a little off the wall. One of the tales was about giant spoked wheels of light rotating in the Indian Ocean/Sumatra Straits area. He was trying to make a case for them being beacons for aliens or something. I had to laugh because I had seen them myself and knew what they were, but it showed how these stories get started.

Yay Scott! Kudos to you on the nav maps, they look great. The names really help give a sense of scale. I mean you can look at a coastline all you want, but as soon as you have a known "thing" to refer to its waaay easier! :) Keep up all the great work. - and I promise that when I'm done my legs I'll send photos right away ;)

Of course you get an answer! however it might be a bit of a non-entity but you get one none the less :)

I posted a request for more photos too - now that leg 1 is finished hopefully some will come in... but I haven't heard anything yet.

Hey, at least I got the location names on the map now ;)

Hey, I guess I'm not really expecting an answer on this, but I'm finding myself craving some more offshore photos. I guess you have no idea when there will be new ones in?? thanks anyways.

A Huge thanks to bosunsmate.org user rcl62 for giving us all a first glimpse of photos from the current offshore leg 1.

I certainly didn't expect to have photos available this quickly (before the leg is even over) and I'm sure I speak for all when I pass along all our thanks for the father-son team bringing us photos "en-route" ! :D

More cool news...

I visited the SALTS office in Victoria on Friday and, after some extensive photo-copying, now have the logs for the Swift's 1991-1993 Offshore.

I'm going to start entering all this data into a new historical section in TRACK-NAV just as soon as I get a few of my paying jobs finished - but I think you are all really going to enjoy this - I was just skimming the log during my ferry ride home, it's wonderful to read!

From one who knows the feeling very intimately - I too hope he is in the "most good" catigory ;)

I hate to admit it - but I'm in Hornblower's league when it comes to seasickness - despite my love of sailing I easily can get seasick givin the right conditions and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

As for typing stuff in, I'm probably going to keep the tracker logs for the official ship's log entries but anything he can find the time to contribute I'm

... thought it was something like that...

If (when) Phil calls back next week, I'll ask him if he can type a bunch of stuff in, and send it to you... I'm also hoping he'll send back film as he takes it.

Hope he's not one of the protein spill crowd...:)

Cheers,

Rob

Glad you like it... I was on the edge of my seat all morning waiting for that first one to come in.

The messages come in via email transferred in through a satellite. The clincher is that there is a per character charge for that so the emails need to be as short as possible to save money.

The log entries we get initially will mostly be of this brief form (if any at all)

Then, after each leg is complete I will hopefully get access to the full logs from the trip (which are to be sent via
