A Love Story (ours)

Kellei Bulmer was born here on the Sunshine Coast and with the exception of some travels abroad has lived here all her life. She runs her own business BC First Aid as a Certified First Aid instructor here on the coast and is very involved volunteering with the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary - Pacific Unit 12 Halfmoon Bay (CCGA-12).

Scott Baker was born in Ontario and escaped to BC at a young age, moving to the coast only 3 years ago. He runs a successful web development business PawPrint.net and also volunteers for CCGA-12 as the Training Officer.

They were the first couple to attend the 2005 International Search and Rescue Competition in Halifax together. Kellei won the overall Can-Am competition and Scott the Search and Rescue Exercise. Actually, they met through their mutual desire to volunteer with CCGA-12 and their involvement with the Sunshine Coast Wooden Boat Festival.

After spending much of the first annual festival working together it became clear that they had discovered true love. It was one year later that, accompanied by live music from Joe Stanton, Scott proposed to Kellei at the second annual festival. Their wedding will be in Snickett Park in Sechelt on July 8th 2006, the 2 year anniversary of their first kiss.

The Perl Ring

The Ring

The story behind Kellei's engagement ring is too special not to share: Kellei was given 5 fresh local oysters by her friend Brian Louie and brought them home to share with Scott who had never had them before. Kellei showed Scott how to shuck them and they enjoyed 2 each.

They shared the last oyster. Kellei enjoyed her half but Scott's face scrunched up after one bite. He slowly pulled something foreign out of his mouth and after a moment's pause said to Kellei "That's not a pearl is it?" It certainly was and a good size one too. Once the initial excitement past, the pearl was afforded a special display place in their living room until later that year when Scott snuck it out of the house to be set in gold as an engagement ring for Kellei.

Scott proposed to Kellei one year after they met, at the Wooden Boat Festival and no better symbol of their love could ever have been possible.
